Brief Bio
With nearly thirty years of community building, Reverend Donna Vanhook has developed strong networks in Alamance County. She is a Burlington native, by way of Morgantown. Her diverse background in law enforcement , ordained ministry and community organizing brings a unique perspective to local governance.
Reverend Vanhook has earned an AAS in Law Enforcement; a BA in Religious Studies with a minor in Human Services; a Master of Divinity degree and an MA in Nonprofit Management.
Reverend Vanhook serves on the boards of: ARCAP Community Action Agency; Burlington Community Land Trust; Eastern NC Association of Southern Conference UCC and is the Committee on Housing chair for Burlington/Alamance NAACP. She hopes to use her knowledge and influence to build sustainable trauma informed communities where people can thrive and live an improve quality of life. - Develop community gardens, support local food pantries, and creating programs to eliminate food insecurity.
- Continue addressing pollution from sites like the former Tarheel Army Missile Plant to protect public health.
- Foster community empowerment through town halls, advisory boards, and inclusive decision-making processes.
Economic & Community Development
As a Burlington City Council person, Donna Vanhook will:
- Promote local entrepreneurship with grants and low-interest loans.
- Attract new businesses to East Burlington through tax incentives and workforce support.
- Promote job training and apprenticeship programs for youth and adults.
- Provide incentives for grocery stores, pharmacies, and essential services to locate in underserved areas.

Donna Vanhook's priorities for affordable housing:
- Incentives for developers to prioritize quality, affordable units.
- Partnerships with nonprofits to provide housing counseling, rental support, and eviction prevention.
- Programming available for all residents to have access to safe, modern, and affordable homes.
- Develop and renovate homes to ensure safe, energy-efficient living spaces for all.
